HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo., October 3, 2023 — Kodiak Building Partners, a premier distributor of building materials and construction products, today announced Chief Executive Officer Steve Swinney has won The Denver Business Journal’s “Most Admired CEO” award for 2023. The prestigious award honors outstanding executives in the Denver business community for their leadership skills, innovations and ability to positively transform the companies and communities they represent.

Swinney and his business partners founded Kodiak Building Partners in 2011 and created a new format for mergers and acquisitions within the building materials industry. Following the Great Recession, Swinney saw an opportunity to invest in the success of legacy brands with a decentralized, locally driven and entrepreneurial approach. Since then, Kodiak has acquired more than 100 locations and grown to be one of Colorado’s largest employers with 6,000-plus employees.
Judges for the Most Admired CEO awards evaluated nominees on several criteria and considered their innovations, leadership skills and overall impact when it comes to financial success, workplace wellness, diversity and philanthropy. Nominees’ career achievements, and commitment to community and civic engagements also factored into the final selections.
The Denver Business Journal announced its selections for the 2023 class of Most Admired CEOs on October 2. Swinney and other winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony on November 16 in downtown Denver.
