Sun Mountain Custom Doors was founded in northern Colorado in January 1998 as a distributor of residential door slabs, offering value-added pre-hanging and pre-finishing. In 2003, the company vertically integrated and began manufacturing its own door slabs. Production operations expanded over time from the 30,000-square-foot factory at the company’s founding to the 105,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility in operation today. Sun Mountain offers over 8,000 door designs in 17 wood species, with a choice of 30 standard finish colors (or custom color matching), and numerous customization options.

In 2008, Sun Mountain began an expansion of its direct-selling distribution model outside of Colorado, opening a boutique showroom and distribution center in western North Carolina. Today, Sun Mountain has operations in nine states including field sales, showroom, and delivery/service operations. The company markets its products nationally and regularly sells direct to custom builders, architects, designers, and homeowners in all states in the continental U.S. Sun Mountain Custom Doors is the premier manufacturer of custom doors in the country.

Custom Interior & Exterior Doors

Sun Mountain carries over 8,000 door designs custom-made-to-order and available in 17 wood species (plus reclaimed lumber), with a choice of 30 standard stain or stain/glaze finish colors (or custom color matching). The company offers numerous customization options including a selection of sticking/panel profiles, applied mouldings, distressed wood (antiquing), cross-bucks, clavos, and iron grilles.

Stock Knotty Alder Interior Doors

Sun Mountain’s “Teton Series” is a value-priced line of 1-3/8” thick Knotty Alder interior doors available in seven designs in standard door sizes (a variety of door widths, and both 6/8 and 8/0 heights). Slabs are made to stock for quicker lead times, with pre-hanging and pre-finishing options available at the time of order.

Stock MDF Interior Doors

The company manufactures a value-priced yet high-quality line of 1-3/4” thick pre-primed MDF interior doors (ready for on-site painting). Three door designs are available (1-panel, 2-panel, 3-panel) in modern Craftsman-style, and are stocked in standard door sizes (a variety of door widths, and 6/8, 7/0, and 8/0 door heights). This product is made with solid 3/4” thick MDF panels, engineered stile and rail frame components (resistant to warp), and solid Poplar door edges (for hinging).

Custom Wood Mouldings

Custom made-to-order wood base, case, crown, chair rail, and tongue and groove (shiplap/wainscot) mouldings are available in over 150 standard profiles, with a choice of 30 standard factory pre-finish colors (or custom color-matching). Sun Mountain also manufactures plinths, rosettes, corner blocks, and brick and stucco mouldings for exterior door casing.

Custom Wood Beams

Sun Mountain manufactures hollow “box” beams available in “L,” “U,” and “O” shapes in up to 10’ and 12’ lengths with a unique method of connecting individual beams to create longer lengths. Choose from 17 wood species (plus reclaimed lumber) with 30 standard factory pre-finish colors (or custom color-matching) and distressed wood options.

Door Hardware

High-quality architectural-grade door hardware including handles, knobs, and locksets are sourced and distributed from premier brands such as Emtek, Ashley Norton, and Rocky Mountain Hardware. Sun Mountain also distributes bi-fold, bypass, pocket door, barn door, pivot, and folding wall/door hardware solutions.
