Kodiak acquires Christensen Lumber Co. of Nebraska and Kansas

May 1, 2019
Tom Christensen of Christensen Lumber and Kodiak Building Partners announced today the acquisition of Christensen Lumber, as of May 1, 2019. Christensen Lumber was founded in 1923 and was one of the first businesses to establish itself in Fremont, Nebraska. Tom will continue as President, Christensen Lumber, and continue his dedicated leadership. Additionally, Tom will be a part of the ownership group of Kodiak, as many past sellers to Kodiak have elected. Christensen Lumber will join the Building Materials Group at Kodiak Building Partners and will be under the direction of Mark Garboski. The nearly 100-year legacy of his family’s business is held in the highest regard by Tom, the nearly 250 employees, the loyal Christensen customers, and the communities it serves. Selling to Kodiak Building Partners was the perfect choice for Tom, as he knew that the rich legacy would be honored, continued, and improved upon. Tom shared, “By no accident, Christensen Lumber has become a leader in the Midwest for engineered wood building components, millwork, and lumber sales. Hard work, deliberate planning, investments, and execution led us to this juncture, and Kodiak is perfectly positioned to allow us to continue on our successful journey and help us keep our focus on our areas of expertise.”

Steve Swinney, Kodiak’s CEO, stated that Kodiak has been following the success of Christensen Lumber for a long time. “I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to join the Christensen family in serving their midwestern markets. The values represented by Christensen and the communities they serve…family, hard work, and humility, are ones we share. Tom has led his family’s business to new heights and has thoughtfully planned out Christensen’s bright future. We feel fortunate to partner with such a fine company and its exceptional employees. Great things will continue to happen at Christensen!”
